SSP also supports social engagement and focus that can ease elevated emotional and sensory sensitivities for people with Autism-Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Hyperactivity Deficit Disorder (ADHD) This listening therapy takes place over 8-10 weeks, with regular check ins on progress, as I therapeutically support you moving your nervous (and emotional) systems back to a regulated state. In addition to offering Theraplay, a structured attachment-based play therapy, I also offer support for children coping with stress, anxiety, loss, and adjustment. Child and youth sessions can look like children and parents attending together, engaging and reflecting on the child’s stress together; children and parents completing Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) sessions together, with lots of sensory-based activities during listening; or expressive arts and craft-based sessions for youth attending as individuals or family units.
I have over 20 years’ experience supporting children and youth in mental health and community engagement programming. My experience with children and families ranges from working as an outreach facilitator (Childreach, POP UP program) for families of infants and toddlers, to creating and supervising recreational (City of London) and expressive arts (Arts Health Antigonish- Thundertales) programs that promoted engagement with expressive creative arts and play.
Please reach out through the Parent-Only Intake session to book a first appointment for children aged 13 and under. This session allows for parents to express their concerns and provide details on family/community dynamics that may be informing the child’s stress.

Young Adults / Students
Offering weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly appointments. Strengths-based and solution-focused. Investment $180/hr.
More Info
A young adult has very specific and valid challenges. Whether starting work for the first time, deciding what streams and courses to take in high school, or adjusting to attending post-secondary education, these transitions all come with vulnerability and stress that can be upsetting and difficult to make sense of. In addition to these major life transitions, many young adults have already survived harsh realities and traumas related to loss and grief, sexual and physical abuse/assaults, and coping strategies that have become harmful such as disordered eating, body dysmorphia, binging, and substance use. These coping skills can be embarrassing and create a lot of shame, leading to impacts on our bodies such as migraines, depression, and pain.
I work from a baseline of unconditional positive regard, supporting my clients to make sense of and care for their traumas and coping strategies. Together, we will create new patterns of thinking that are self-compassionate. This will help build new habits that provide proactive coping.

Family Therapy
Individual or family intakes welcome. Investment $180/individual, $225 for 2+ people.
More Info
As children and adults, we are constantly processing and making sense of our world through our relationships to our closest people, this reality-making almost always begins with our families of origin. Whether you are a parent of a child wanting to support their distress, or an adult child working through past and present challenges with your own parents (adopted and/or biological), siblings, and in-laws; changing old habits of communication can be some of the hardest and most painful work of our lives. I will support my clients with feedback on relational patterns, conflict management, and exploring new methods of communication, to create new boundaries and affirm positive bonding experiences with family (chosen and origin) of all ages. Families are welcome to book together for an initial intake session or have one family member reach out to begin discussing the process of family therapy.

Loss and Grief

Hello! I’m Amberlee Boulton
(she/her), Hons. BA, MSW, RCSW
I am a registered clinical social worker (RCSW) earning my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Calgary, specializing in Leadership in Human Services. Since 2023, I have practiced clinically, working with children, youth, and adults to support my clients in navigating their lives’ transitions, processing grief, and healing from trauma. My roots in Antigonish and non-profit work has privileged me with many contacts that open doors for other referrals that someone may need to ‘wrap around’ care as well.
I am involved in my community, serving as Chair of ASAP Artist-Run Centre, co-chair the Antigonish Culture Alive (ACA) annual arts festival, Antigonight, and I contribute to food equity initiatives through Lochaber Growers Cooperative food box program. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, knitting, practicing yin yoga, and exploring the outdoors year-round.

My Approach
My approach to therapy is grounded in an attachment-based philosophy. Attachment Theory is an evidence-based practice, emphasizing the importance of developing secure relationships that foster healing and growth. I believe that our relationships, whether with family, friends, pets, or communities, play a significant role in our emotional health. When there are disruptions—such as trauma, loss, or conflict —impact how we relate to ourselves and others.
In my work, I strive to create a safe, compassionate space for clients to explore and process these disruptions, to understand and heal past wounds. Together, we will work to rebuild trust, practice self-compassion, and develop tools for managing stress and emotional challenges. By acknowledging and addressing these impacts, I support clients in building resilience, fostering healthy connections, and finding new ways to navigate your personal journeys
